Telecomms giants appeal Cumbernauld phone mast rejection

A DECISION by local councillors to block planning permission for a mobile phone mast near a primary school has been challenged by telecommunications giants.

Vodafone and O2 have appealed to the Scottish Government to overrule North Lanarkshire Council’s unanimous refusal to permit them to construct a phone mast.

The firms believe this is the best site possible for its base station and that radiation from it will be negligible, a tiny fraction of the amount stated in health guidelines.

The April decision was the second time NLC had denied the joint venture, as the applicants had submitted a revised version of their plans following an earlier refusal.

But parents and local respresentatives have reiterated their determination that no mast will be built near Eastfield Primary School.
