Cumbernauld is on the way to having its third branch of Tesco after the supermarket giant confirmed that it’s finally set to put in an application to planners.
Months have gone by since Tesco expressed their intention to partially convert Condorrat Social Club into a mini-supermarket, leading some to believe that the controversial project had stalled.,
The plan has been the focus of a petition, a demonstration and a stormy public meeting in April. Locals claimed that the plan would kill off existing businesses in Main Road and spark traffic chaos.
Stacey Egan of Condorrat Community Council insisted that locals were ready to fight.
She said: ‘‘Feelings about this subject have not and are unlikely to change.
“We have been expecting this submission for some ime now so have not been caught unawares by it. We will continue to make sure that the majority view - that Tesco Express is not wanted in our village - is represented when the application actually goes to planning.’’
