TOP SCORING PUPILS REWARDED

Pupils who have scored top marks across school subjects were recognised at the 2013 Convener’s Awards which were held recently at Caldervale High School in Airdrie.

This year’s awards were the highest ever with 131 students from 23 schools receiving an award for eight 1’s or equivalent and 67 students from 21 schools receiving the award for five A passes in S5: a total of 198 altogether.

Councillor Jim Logue, said: “The annual awards ceremony recognises what are really tremendous individual achievements by our pupils.

“I want to congratulate each and every one of the pupils for the commitment, enthusiasm and sheer hard work which they have successfully demonstrated in the recent SQA exams.

“We are delighted to note the increasing number of award winners which clearly reflects on the quality of learning and teaching taking place in our schools.

“On your behalf I want to acknowledge the endeavours of your families, and all teaching and non teaching staff who support, enthuse, motivate and challenge you on a daily basis.

“To secure eight 1’s at standard grade or five A grade Highers is up there with the very best in the Scottish education system whether in the private, independent or public schools. You should be very proud of yourselves – we are very proud of you.”
