Woman cut free from car

Firefighters from Kirkintilloch raced to help Kilsyth colleagues cut an injured woman free from her wrecked car on Sunday afternoon.

The firefighters from both community fire stations swept into action after an emergency call from ambulance crew at the scene - who desperately needed to get the woman out of the vehicle.

It isn’t known whether another vehicle was involved, or what caused the accident, which happened just before 2pm.

The crews were at the site of the accident, near the railway bridge on the B8023 Kilsyth to Cumbernauld road, six minutes after they received the call.

They used specialised hydraulic cutting equipment to free the victim while paramedics battled to keep her in a stable condition.

The injured woman was then safely released from the vehicle and moved to a waiting ambulance to be taken to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.
