Treatment rooms cut bid opposed

PLANS to cut down on the number of treatment rooms in Cumbernauld have another high profile opponent.

Last week we revealed how bosses from NHS Lanarkshire are reviewing the service - much to the dismay of Cumbernauld Community Forum’s sub group on health.

It has now emerged that Jamie Hepburn MSP is also against any reduction in the number of GP treatment rooms locally and is ‘‘very concerned’’.

He is also urging locals to make their views on this subject known via the public consultation exercise that has just been launched by health chiefs, with a July 8 deadline.

Mr Hepburn said: “The health boards must listen to local opinion and ensure the services provided meet local demand and put patient care first.

“The SNP Government is protecting health spending against the cuts coming from Westminster. Local health boards have a responsibility to manage their budgets carefully and prioritise frontline services over backroom costs.’’

The treatment rooms allow patients to be seen for routine matters such as injections by practise nurses following referrals from GPs.
