Tryst pools remain closed.

SWIMMING facilities at Cumbernauld's Tryst Centre will remain closed over the weekend.

No-one has been admitted to the pool for over a week after five locals reported symptoms of diarrhoea.

When it emerged that all had been swimming in the Tryst, health officials from NHS Lanarkshire advised the council to shut the facility pending tests.

The tests uncovered traces of the cryptosporidium bug.

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Leisure said: "Testing of the pool water at the Tryst Sports Centre in Cumbernauld showed traces of cryptosporidium.

"The pools, which have been closed on the advice of NHS Lanarkshire since the first potentially connected cases were reported, remain closed while we complete a thorough treatment of the water and filtration systems.

"We will re-open the pools as soon as we are sure it is safe to do so. All other facilities at the Tryst are operating as usual."

Dr David Cromie, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Lanarkshire said: "Testing at the swimming pools within the Tryst Sports Complex in Cumbernauld has identified the presence of cryptosporidium in the bathing water and investigations are ongoing to identify the cause.

"The pool will remain closed until this work is completed."
