Tryst pools reopen

The Tryst Sports Centre in Cumbernauld has re-opened its swimming facilities after a cryptosporidium health scare made them a no-go area for more than two weeks.

North Lanarkshire Leisure (NLL) made the decision to reopen the pools this week after they were given a clean bill of health following tests on the water.

The pools were closed as a precautionary measure after they were linked to five cxases of cryptosporidium.

A report from consultants engaged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to examine the pools' filtration and water treatment systems has concluded that the systems are operating as they should.

The HSE has also confirmed a series of negative test results for the cryptosporidium bug.

Dr David Cromie, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine, said: "The Outbreak Control Team is satisfied that all proper conditions have been met and the pools can safely reopen.

"I'd like to thank the HSE and its consultants, North Lanarkshire Leisure and North Lanarkshire Council for their swift and professional actions, which have allowed us to contain and address this outbreak," added Dr Cromie.
