Volunteers are recognised

A CUMBERNAULD man was among dedicated volunteers from NHS Lanarkshire who were recognised at an awards ceremony hosted jointly by Supercounty and NHS Lanarkshire in Low Parks Museum, Hamilton.

Ken Corsar, chairman of NHS Lanarkshire, in paying tribute to all the volunteers countywide, said: “It is a privilege and an honour to acknowledge the sterling work which is undertaken on a daily basis.

“Each volunteer provides a valued service within our hospitals and local communities. The commitment and dedication has not gone unnoticed by the patients and staff.

“I was delighted when Supercounty proposed this joint presentation.

“Volunteers take on a range of roles within NHS Lanarkshire and I am proud to say that over the last year we have had a considerable period of expansion in volunteering.

“There are more than 50 different volunteering roles available with more than 450 volunteers currently giving their time on a regular basis: It is our aim to involve more than 1000 volunteers by 2014.”

Ian Livingstone, chairman of Supercounty, said: “Lanarkshire is proud that so many dedicated volunteers give so much to the community.

“This is our way of saying thank you for all the time, efforts and energy that the volunteers give to the hospitals and local communities.”

Utkarsh will continue his education and study medicine at university in the autumn.
