Volunteers help to transform Dullatur

LOCAL volunteers have made Dullatur an even nicer place to be as an environmental project continues.

An unusually generous helping of sunshine made a planting session a more pleasant undertaking. The volunteers included staff from Scottish & Southern Energy, plus youngsters from Dullatur Lawn Tennis Club and Roteract.

The initiative was started by Cumbernauld Environmental Group which initally started as a sub-group of Cumbernauld Community Forum before branching out on its own - and it is hoped that the initiative can bring a nature reserve and frog pond to the area.

Attractive iron butterfly ornaments have been created to brighten up the area by local man John Colquhoun who was responsible for the Roman centurian who ‘guards’ the entry to Dullatur. The designs were pencilled out by Dullatur Community Council secretary Margaret Smillie.

Margaret said: “We would like to thank everyone who has been involved. Their efforts have been inspirational.”
