Walk this way

WALKERS from all over the UK are heading for Kilsyth this autumn for a special event.

The town will host a prestigious Walkers are Welcome conference in October.

Preparations are already well underway thanks to a team effort from Kilsyth and Villages Community Forum and the organisation itself.

It's hoped the event will help identify Kilsyth as an ideal stop-off point for walking holidays.

Colzium House has been booked for the event on Sunday, October 24. The conference will be officially opened by Kilsyth Civic Queen Ellyss Conroy.

Forum spokesman Paul Carter said: "We are hoping that it will help 'sell' Kilsyth and the wider area.

"The theme of the conference is 'Regeneration' and it will put the focus on how a town like ours was left in a state of industrial dereliction, but has pulled itself up by its bootstraps in the last few decades.

''We want to show how we have turned miners' trails and drovers' roads into places of interest in our area, in a post industrial climate."
