War veteran comes back home to Kilsyth to be wed

A KILSYTH-BORN Vietnam War veteran has come home for Christmas and to marry his wife-to-be after a lifetime of travelling the world with the Australian armed forces.

From leaving home at the age of 19 as a young Scottish tearaway, to returning home as a 62-year-old Vietnam War veteran, Robert (Bobby) Taggart has seen it all.

His travels have led him into the thick of battle in one of history’s most controversial wars, and to a lifetime of training recruits, soldiers and apprentices, as a Warrant Officer Class II.
