The Kiltwalk is being held in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Speyside this year, giving everyone the chance to make a difference whatever their age or fitness.

Walkers can pick their own children’s charity and raise money by taking part in a six-mile walk, a 13-mile wander or a 26-mile “mighty stride”.

The events, sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and the Hunter Foundation, aim to raise thousands of pounds for children’s charities and causes.

And now, with just two months to go until the first event in Glasgow on April 24, organisations are on the hunt for 2000 volunteers to support the fundraisers.

Affectionately known as Kilties, volunteers are being asked to sign up to a variety of roles including cheerleading to inspire walkers and drivers to transport people and equipment.

Paul Cooney, CEO of The Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk, said: “Kilties support the walkers on the day, have great fun, make friends and create memories that will last forever.

“Walks of six, 13 or 26 miles will be tough going, but the Kilties provide invaluable support.

“It’s a chance for people to make friends, gain experience and help raise money for incredible causes, with every penny raised going towards Scotland’s children.”

The search for Kilties was officially launched with a flashmob in Glasgow’s Central Station this week.

The dancers were joined by Kilties and representatives from the partner charities Aberlour, Yorkhill Children’s Charity, CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland) and Calum’s Cabin.

Among the appropriately named songs performed during the flashmob were Walk This Way by RUN-DMC, New Shoes by Paolo Nutini and Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves.
