WE WANT CAMERAS

CONCERNED parents want CCTV cameras installed on Haugh Road after a schoolgirl was grabbed by a stranger.

The 13-year-old was making her way to Kilsyth Academy at 9.10am on June 15 when the man grabbed her by the wrist. Thankfully she managed to struggle free and ran to school.

Now, worried parents have started a Facebook group to campaign for added security measures, and are also preparing to collect signatures on a petition.

Cheryl Anderson, who started the group, says many of her friends and family use the route daily.

She said: "Schoolchildren walk that road everyday and it's obviously not safe for them. It's very quiet and cut off, the bushes block the view from the main road. I walk it with my kids all the time and so do my nieces and nephews.

"We're basically trying to get a petition together to take to the council to show the support for putting in CCTV cameras."

More than 260 people have joined the online society, named 'CCTV for the HOG'S in Kilsyth', after only three days.

Haugh Road runs between the Garrell Vale Community Centre and Duncansfield, connecting Garrell Road to Glasgow Road.

Meanwhile, the police would like to speak to anyone with information that could help them identify the man that approached the girl.

He is described as being 20 to 25-years-old, of broad build and between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 11ins tall.

He wore a black pullover style hoodie with dark grey cotton trousers that had three red stripes on them. He was also wearing gloves.
