THE owners of Broadwood Stadium have confirmed the facility will remain regardless of any decision by Clyde Football Club.

Clyde recently confirmed it was looking into a possible move to Showground Stadium, East Kilbride - which would leave Cumbernauld with no senior football team.

However, North Lanarkshire Leisure, the council-owned company in charge of Broadwood, confirmed it has no other use for the stadium in mind.

NLL will continue to operate it on a community and commercial basis either way, particularly its leisure centre.

A spokesman said: “The stadium has been enhanced with the investment of the £9m sports and leisure centre which opened on January 5 last year. This facility has provided a major boost to the portfolio of facilities within the stadium.

“This investment serves the sport, health and leisure needs of residents of North Lanarkshire and Cumbernauld in particular. With almost 450,000 attendances last year, the stadium together with the new sports facilities is playing a major role in sport for the area and has been successful in encouraging more people to be more active, more often.”

He added: “Our aim would be to ensure that this vital role continues under any change of circumstances, to secure the long-term future of the facility. The campus of facilities is a major asset and one that we are confident will continue to be accessed and enjoyed by the community.”
