We’re doing this to avoid closures

Under-fire post office bosses have said that controversial change proposals to both Balloch and Croy Post Offices are in fact a boost, as these are allowing them to remain open.

Last week we told how MP Gregg McClymont had written to Post Office minister Jo Swinson whose East Dumbartonshire consituency borders his own.

The Labour man was also taking exception to the potential closure of the Crown post office in Cumbernauld Centre but so far, no new location has been found to run it on a franchise basis.

Although Ms Swinson is currently on maternity leave, her spokesman has told the News and Chronicle that changes must take place or sub -post offices will shut.

This involves post office counters being dismantled and a reduced service being offered at a till.
