Westerwood home plans under fire

Ogilvie Homes Ltd want to build a residential development and associated works at a site on St Andrews Drive.

They have been granted planning permission in prinicipal by planners at North Lanarkshire Council.

But a site hearing and visit has been requested before the project is given the green light.

One woman objecting to the plans commented on North Lanarkshire Council website, “I am not against new housing but the current services and infrastructure cannot support anymore houses here or the 300 planned for Carrickstone View or others contained in NLC’s development plans.

Schooling, medical facilities, public transport links, and the current volume of traffic using Eastfield Road are some of the major concerns.”

Cumbernauld Environmental Society have also objected to the plans. They are concerned that the application takes in an area which is listed on the North Lanarkshire Local Plan as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC).

Ogilvie Homes Ltd propose to amend the boundary of this SINC by 0.5ha to suit their application. The SINC is comprised of semi-natural woodland which contains a diverse range of tree, plant and flower species. The area is also rich in wildlife and there has been documented bird sightings .

A spokesman for Ogilvie Homes Ltd said: “Our application is for planning permission in priniciple and is at a site that has been allocated for development within the NLC local plan that was adopted last year.”
