Witness appeal after man is beaten on night out

POLICE are stepping up their efforts to locate to search for a gang of men who mounted what is thought to be an unprovoked assault on a 44-year-old man who had been enjoying a night out with friends.

Officers have approached the Chronicle in relation to the melee which saw more than six males inflict horrific injuries on their victim as he left the Broch pub in Balmalloch Road.

The thugs had sprung after the man was making his way home with his pals.

It is not known whether the victim knew his attackers.

We understand that police are trying to trace two named suspects and want to speak to anyone who can shed further light on this incident which is being treated as a common assault.

Such was the intensity of the attack that the man suffered a broken nose, broken ribs plus cuts to his head and eye after the thugs did their worst.

Officers have been issued with a description of the gang who are thought to be around the 18 to 20 age group.

The attack took place on October 1 at around 1am and police hope this report will jog the memories of anyone who witnessed the attack.

Officers are looking to speak to a man who was described as having fair spiky hair and was wearing a blue hooded top with white stripes.

They also want to talk to another man who is around 5ft 9in and was wearing a “Superman” tee shirt.

He is described as being tall and of slim build.

It is thought that a wider group of men, all wearing dark clothing, joined them in the attack on the victim.

This has not been the only example of alleged disorder in the area, after it emerged that there was an arrest made outside the Broch on Sunday night.

According to police a 20-year-old woman from Kirkintilloch was arrested following an alleged assault on a 43-year-old female.

She was charged and released from police custody pending a court appearance for this alleged attack.

A report on this incident has been sent to the procurator fiscal in Airdrie.
