Yes campaignerstake to the streets

SCOTTISH independence campaigners launched their campaign for a yes vote in the referendum next year on Saturday, March 2, in Cumbernauld town centre.

The Scottish Government is organising the referendum to give the people their say on whether Scotland should be an independent country or remain part of the UK.

The local yes group is being set up to take the case for independence to every part of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

Local SSP activist Kevin McVey welcomed the initiative and hopes people will join in the campaign to maximise support for a yes vote.

Mr McVey said: “The yes campaign enjoys the support of the SNP, SSP and the Scottish Greens. More important will be the support from those people who see a yes vote as the chance to have a different and more progressive future in a Scotland where we make our own decisions. A local yes group can make a really worthwhile difference to the debate and is the next stage in developing this discussion in this area.”
