Those who are eagerly anticipating being able to get their nails and other beauty treatments done once again, will have to wait until phase three of Scotland’s route map out of lockdown.

This will begin from 9 July at the earliest.

Alongside personal retail such as hairdressers and beauty salons, larger retailers will also reopen with physical distancing in this phase.

Pubs and restaurants will also be allowed to reopen in indoor spaces with physical distancing and increased hygiene measures.

Physical distancing requirements will be in place, with frequent handwashing and hygiene measures for all.

Cough etiquette will also be maintained, with face coverings in enclosed public spaces, including public transport.

What’s the situation in England?

In England, although it was originally thought that hairdressers could be among the first businesses to reopen, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab revealed that they will now not open until 4 July at the earliest during phase three.

This also includes some cafes or restaurants with outdoor space, places of worship and socially distanced cinemas.

How can I support my local beauty salon?

A good way to support your local beauty salon is to buy a gift voucher now that you can use there when they reopen.

They may also be very busy when they do reopen, so if your local beauty salon does have a waiting list, then it’s worth putting your name down now.

L'Oréal Professionnel, the British Beauty Council patron, has released a COVID-19 support guide to help hair salon owners, employees, and self-employed hair stylists who are currently out of work.

The guide includes details on the current government measures, alongside information on how to claim benefits, HR and legal advice.
