‘Big boost’ as Rangers move into top spot

MOVING two points clear at the top of the Central District First Division will give Kilsyth Rangers a ‘big boost at the right time’.

Assistant boss Martin Mooney watched his team brush aside Port Glasgow with a clinical 4-0 display on Saturday.

Things got even better at full-time when news filtered through to Battery Park that St Anthony’s had gone down 2-1 away to Thorniewood United.

Mooney said: “Saturday was excellent for us. It wasn’t just the result, it was the way we played, the team were fantastic.

“We kept the ball and passed it well along the ground and didn’t give them a chance, we’ve got a lot of boys here that can do that.

“With St Anthony’s losing as well, that means we’re now top in our own right. That’ll give the players a big confidence boost at the right time of the season.”

Rangers travel to Denny to face fifth-placed Dunipace tonight before Vale of Leven visit Duncansfield on Saturday.

Mooney added: “Going top means every team will be looking to take your scalp. Sometimes it’s better to be in the race but sitting back a bit.

“But to win a league you need to be able to take that kind of pressure, everyone wanting to beat you.

“We’ve got a good mixture here and there’s no doubt in my mind that the boys are up to that challenge.”
