Danny takes over at Guy’s Meadow

CUMBERNAULD United have a new man at the helm as John Queen has decided to take a short sabbatical from the dugout.

Former Bellshill Athletic boss Danny Drew has taken charge and will look after matters until the end of the season.

Drew said: “I had a chat with John and he asked if I would help the team out. I know John well and he’s done a fantastic job here.

“I’m delighted to be involved, I met Ronnie [Hunter] and George [Watson] (United joint-chief executives) years ago and had a chat with them and was very impressed with their enthusiasm.

“Everything’s in place for Cumbernauld to be a huge success, I just want to be a part of helping them to achieve that.”

Drew got off to a flyer last Saturday with a 3-2 win over Ashfield at Saracen Park, a game originally scheduled for November 27.

He continued: “I took training last Wednesday but I was heavily relying on Junior [Gibson] for the team selection. I think we played well and deserved the result, it felt good to get the game out of the way.

“The table is so tight, below the top few teams there’s only about three points at the most between each of the rest. A few good results and you never know where you can end up.”

Up next for United is Shotts Bon Accord at Guy’s Meadow on Saturday.
