Gers go top

Port Glasgow 0 Kilsyth Rangers 4

Central District League

First Division

THIS was a very good result for Rangers which, taken with St. Anthony’s losing to Thorniewood, leaves them sitting as clear leaders of the division.

Played on the artificial turf at Battery Park, the surface suited Rangers passing style of play perfectly and the outcome was never in doubt once they had gone ahead after only six minutes.

A lovely sunny day on the Clyde coast and Rangers prospects were equally bright after taking an early lead, McPeake finishing a fine piece of play with a good shot past Tucker.

It was all Kilsyth in the opening spell, Kelly and Dolan on the two wings making good runs and putting some very tempting balls over into the Port box.

Only some good defending and anticipation by the keeper kept the margin at a single goal but as half-time neared the pressure was beginning to tell and the inevitable second goal came just five minutes from the interval.

David Waters took the ball past three defenders before slipping a fine pass to McPeake who finished with a great shot high to the net.

The second half was not long under way when Flannery added the third, again a great finish which gave Tucker little chance.

Rangers were totally in control of the game now and turning on some very nice play and just on the hour mark flannery slipped the ball to Francis Kelly, whose finish was right out of the top drawer.

The home side had hardly been seen in the game so far but as Rangers eased off a little they did begin to make some excursions upfield.

Rangers made a few changes, McAteer came on for McPeake and soon showed that he too could produce some great attacking moves.

David Barclay and new boy, Nimmo, also came on and although there were no more goals the standard of play had hardly diminished.

The closing spell saw a couple of minor skirmishes, and several bookings, but no red cards. All in all, a very good afternoon’s work by Rangers.
