Second half display earns Rangers another good result

Kilsyth Rangers 3 Shettleston 0

West of Scotland League

Central District First Division

THIS was another very good result for Rangers, which sees them sitting in second place, just behind St. Anthony’s, who also recorded a win at Johnstone Burgh to retain the top spot.

It was very much their second half display that earned them the points, all three goals coming after the interval with Paddy Flannnery keeping up his recent scoring streak with the opening goal.

In 20 minutes Joe Barclay had a good effort cleared off the line and keeper Keenan distinguished himself on several occasions with some very good saves.

Nearing half-time Livingstone had a header almost on the visitors’ goal-line go past. If he had let it be, it would probably have been a goal. All square at the half-time whistle with not much between the teams.

Rangers came out rejuvenated and launched into the attack right from the start. Joe Barclay ran in, passed to Flannery, and although keeper Keenan made a brave effort to disposses him, Paddy retained the ball to score the opener.

Shettleston came back and were very unlucky when a very good shot hit the inside of Duke’s far post, rebounded across goal, came off the other post, and was eventually gathered by the keeper.

A few minutes later and Joe Barclay again broke through, but this time he took the goal himself to put Rangers two up.

Rangers had more chances with Flannery uncharacteristically blasting the ball miles wide from a very good position.

Changes were made late in the game and, almost in the last minute, substitute David Barclay made it three to boost Rangers’ goal difference and emphasise their overall superiority.
