Are you free to take on the challenge of a lifetime?

FREE places are being offered for one of Scotland’s leading health events - giving men of all fitness levels and backgrounds the chance to change a life ... their own.

Forget Superman and Batman, Men’s Health Forum Scotland (MHFS) want guys to be their own heroes by taking part in the MHFS 10k for Men in June.

To help men who might be keen to participate, but who are unable to afford the entry fee, 50 funded places are being made available.

It’s all thanks to a valuable grant from The Robertson Trust.

The funding will support the main occasion on Sunday, June 16, and will also enable the MHFS to hold two free training events - a 3.33k on April 6 in Paisley’s Barshaw Park and a 6.66k on May 11 in Motherwell’s Strathclyde Country Park.

Men of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels are being invited to walk, jog or run the free training events.

There is also a free MHFS-led jogging group which meets at the Gorbals Leisure Centre every Tuesday evening at 5.30pm.

It is hoped those who are new to physical activity or have been inactive for a while will find the inspiration and confidence to enter the eighth annual MHFS 10k for Men – taking place in Bellahouston Park on Sunday, June 16, 2013.

A spokesperson for the popular event said: “We find that, each year, around 40 per cent of the men taking part have never entered a running event before.

“The Men’s 10k is an inclusive, fun celebration for people of all fitness levels.

“Excitingly, the grant from The Robertson Trust will allow us to hold training events to give men a taste of what the Men’s 10k has to offer and inspire them to take part in the main event.

“It also gives us the chance to offer a fantastic 50 free places to men who would like to take part, but cannot afford the entry fee.

“We really want to promote the training events and 10k to men who are new to physical activity or haven’t been active for a while. Why not come along and give it a try?

“It doesn’t matter what fitness level you are at – you can walk, jog or run in a relaxed environment, with support from people who are all facing the same challenges.”
