Army cadet Eilidh picks up gold

A YOUNG Cumbernauld army cadet has become the British junior cross-country champion.

Eilidh Urquhart is a member of the Cumbernauld detachment of F Squadron, The Royal Tank Regiment, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and represented the battalion last October when she became the Scottish junior cross-country champion.

Fourteen-year-old Eilidh then travelled to Warcop Camp in Cumbria to represent Scotland in the national championships and picked up a gold to become the British champion.

She also came back with a bronze in the team event.

A spokeman for F Squadraon said: “We are very proud of Eilidh within the squadron.
