BMX meet falls victim to weather

THE third round of the Cumbernauld Centurions Winter Series fell victim to the weather.

There was little grip on the track and jump visibility was poor, so the racing was postponed.

Club spokesman Raymond Reid said he was disappointed, particularly as the track has recently been improved.

Twenty staff from British Telecom met in Cumbernauld in November to help the club’s committee members with a clean-up.

Wates Construction also delivered materials donated by Tom Irvine of Catherwood Builders.

Next year, Britain will host not just the first Olympics to include BMX, but also the world championships in Birmingham.

And Cumbernauld will have a representative in the latter, with Carla Herron (pictured inset with Olympic prospect Shanaze Reade) set to compete in May.

Raymond said: “Carla’s achievement is massive given that the current track is 20 years out of date and desperately needs upgraded.”

Round Four of the Centurions Winter Series will take place on January 7 and the club is currently recruiting for the 2012 season. For more information visit www.cbmxc.co.uk.
