Lynne Munro, head of development at Scottish Cycling, said: “Thanks to ScottishPower’s sponsorship, we are able to provide our young athletes with the platform to realise their potential.
“The opening of the brand new BMX facility in Cumbernauld is a significant development in the world of BMX for we now have our first international standard track in Scotland. It would be great to see more cycling specific facilities, like this one, throughout the country.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing our aspiring young champions put the first tyre tracks on it this weekend.”

Riders competing at the weekend came from near and far, including local club Cumbernauld Centurions, Western Titans from Clydebank and Musselburgh Monarchs.
Raymond Reid, chairman of Cumbernauld Centurions, said: “It’s a significant milestone in bringing a world class BMX facility to Cumbernauld and North Lanarkshire and an incredibly exciting opportunity.
“The club is going from strength to strength and we are sure this new facility will be a major boost for this family-friendly participation sport. Anyone who can ride a bike can have a go, regardless of age.”
The ScottishPower Youth Series was established as a result of the energy company’s partnership with Scottish Cycling, the national governing body for cycling in Scotland.
