Bowlers’ cup win

Last weekend Cumbernauld Indoor Bowling Club gents fours team were in action in the Scottish Knockout Cup, their opponents being Whiteinch.

The Cumbernauld team started very well and maintained their lead from the start, although their opponents did not give up and kept within striking distance.

However, the local gents were playing very well and extended their lead as the game progressed and ran out very worthy winners by 87 shots to 73. Well played and good luck in the next round.

Cumbernauld skips: D. Geal lost 19-20; A. Barrie lost 21-22; G. Wilson won 26-16; W. Sommerville won 21-15.

At the same time the ladies and seniors were also playing in the same competition against Whiteinch. Both teams were unfortunately beaten but put up a very good display against players with international experience.

This weekend it was the turn of the Glasgow and District competitions and the Cumbernauld ladies pairs and triples were at the Allander and Clydebank stadiums respectively. Unfortunately the ladies triples opponents, Whiteinch, failed to turn up but at the Allander, the game went ahead.

Cumbernauld, with A. Cairnie and skip M. Wightman, started the game slowly and after six ends were down 8-1. This seemed to spur the local team and they started to play as they can. They soon caught up and pulled ahead with each end played. By the third last end they were 12-8 ahead and in command of the match. There was a small hitch at the second last end where they lost two, but on the last they took the shot to win the game 13-10.
