The lightweight secured his second professional victory on Thursday, going four rounds with awkward opponent Qasim Hussain from Sheffield.

But Beattie put on a typically hard-working and fast-paced show for his significant support at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow, and admitted he had to rein himself in later in the fight after pressing for a knock-out.

The gulf in class was clear from the start and Hussain posed a different type of challneg to Beattie’s pro debut for MGM Scotland earlier this year.

“He was a bit of a spoiler,” the 24-year-old said. “In my first fight Kristian Laight let me work. When I say let me it wasn’t that he allowed me, it was his style suited.

“This time it was a bit more awkward, but I felt I was getting more power in my shots and I was hitting him off balance.”

Beattie won comfortably 40-36 to round off MGM Scotland’s dinner club which also included Scottish victories for Lewis Benson and Michael Roberts Junior.

The Slamannan boxer, who is backed by the local Golden Gloves and Sparta gyms in Grangemouth while boxing under the MGM banner, will be in action again in June, and will no doubt take his huge following to Glasgow again.

“I’d fight in my back garden with no-one watching, but the support I’ve been getting is incredible, they’re making memories. I probably was playing to them a wee bit and going too much for the knockdown but I’m learning.”
