Derek chalks up fifty not out
Derek answered an SOS from the organisers of the charity gala event which also saw him give away 4kg to Four Isles welterweight and former Scottish Champion Paddy McGowan. The contest itself was a hard-fought slug-fest which had a packed crowd on their feet and it was the last punch of the battle which sealed the win.
Speaking shortly after the final bell, coach John Heaney heaped praise on his charge in what was a career defining moment.

“It’s been particularly difficult getting opposition for Lee due to his fearsome reputation so we had to give away age and weight for this contest and Lee rose to that challenge to take a very good scalp,” said a club spokesman.
All three boxers will join the rest of the Kilsyth stable in action at the club’s home show at Kilsyth Academy on April 15.
