Brazil lift St. Andrew’s third ‘World Cup’

LAST summer’s World Cup may now be a distant memory, but the youngsters of St. Andrew’s Primary are keeping the spirit of the tournament alive.

The school’s third annual World Cup final was held last Wednesday, following a qualifying tournament that involved nearly 70 pupils.

The match was played out between Brazil and South Africa, and it was the samba stars who edged it with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bafana Bafana.

The result meant that pupils Sean Garey and Connor Whitehead have been on the winning side each year since the competition began.

Head teacher, Mrs Mulrooney, presented the jubilant winners with the coveted trophy.

However, that isn’t the only footballing success story the school has had recently.

The Carrickstone school were recently crowned champions of the inaugrual Cumbernauld and Kilsyth District Primary School Football League.

The competition comprised of eight teams who have been involved in matches over the last few months with the top four teams going into a playoff for the title.

St Andrew’s went on to take the title, defeating St Joseph’s 6-2 in the final.
