Children’s Games volleyball gets a boost

ONE of Scotland’s leading central heating specialists, Saltire, has served a winner by sponsoring the volleyball competitions at this year’s International Children’s Games.

The two large sports halls at Wishaw Sports Centre will host the three-day volleyball event, which will see 125 players from 11 countries participating.

Volleyball is one of nine sports at the Lanarkshire Children’s Games which starts on August 3.

The boys’ and girls’ Team Lanarkshire volleyball squads were established just over a year ago but have really gone from strength to strength.

The boys’ squad finished second and the girls’ squad – which includes St. Maurice’s High School pupils Michelle Bradley, Christie Lamb, Irene McAuley and Shannon Rutter – came fourth in the Scottish Junior National League this year at under 16 age level.
