Council launch Hall of Fame

Former Clyde manager and ex-Scotland boss Craig Brown and two of his former international players Ian Durrant and Neil McCann joined world boxing champion Ricky Burns, Council Leader Jim Logue and Sportscotland Chief Executive Stewart Harris to launch the event at the Ravenscraig regional sports facility in Motherwell.

The region has produced remarkable champions at British, European and World level, and the council wants to immortalise those men and women, past and present, who achieved greatness in their chosen fields.

Council Leader Jim Logue said: “I believe it is important that Councils should recognise, record and celebrate the sporting achievements of young and old who live locally. Hopefully a high profile visibility of a Hall of Fame will inspire, enthuse and encourage the next up and coming sporting generations to follow.

“We are focused on not just to looking back, but to look forward and our greatest contribution to that end is to ensure we have the very best facilities to develop the talents and skills of all those involved in sport.

“I am passionate about the contribution involvement in sport can make to the lifestyles of our residents. I completely agree that we need the best facilities to develop the emerging and latest talents of our young people.”

The Hall of Fame will be sponsored by Albert Bartlett.
