Cumbernauld’s Kaye and horse Nadem qualify for world championships

Kaye Ferguson (24), who lives in Cumbernauld Village, will take her 10-year-old pure breed Arab guilding horse Nadem to compete in the Horse of the Year show, which will take place in Birmingham NEC in October.

She qualified for a place at the prestigious event after a successful show at the British Arabian Championship, which took place in Malvarn on Saturday, July 24.

Proud mum Elizabeth said: “To put it into context, to get qualified for this competition is like Scotland qualifying for the World Cup.

“Most of the people in Kaye’s class do this for a living and work on it full time while she doesn’t.

“Nadem is also the first Scottish horse to qualify for 33 years.”

Kaye, who started riding and working with horses at the age of five and has been competing since she was 15, won her section competing against 25 horses in her class.

She also had to win a ride off against the winner in the junior section to secure the place in the Horse of the Year show.

Her mum Elizabeth, who also shares her daughter’s passion for horses, explained that her daughter has been working on this qualification for the last few years and now she has achieved it.

Elizabeth added: “I am extremely proud of her.”
