Dalziel edge tough encounter

Cumbernauld under 15......0

Dalziel ................................5

Despite the sunny start to Sunday, by kick-off time in the under 15 game between Cumbernauld and Dalziel, it was cold, wet and breezy.

Conditions weren’t great for any amount of running rugby, but a tough encounter was served up between two evenly matched teams.

Dalziel brought a big pack of forward with them which gave them an advantage in the scrums and mauls, but Cumbernauld competed well at the breakdwown, and never lost a put-in to the scrum despite the size difference.

Cumbernauld, however, had the better of the play out in the backs and regularly punched in holes in the midfield defence with both Strang and Duffy looking dangerous.

The conditions led to a number of handling errors, which meant both defences were kept busy as there was plenty of turnover ball, and it was from one such turnover that led to the only score of the game. Dalziel broke through the midfield and scored close to the post just before half-time.

The final score saw Dalziel winning five points to nil, with the scoreline reflecting just how tight a game it was. Despite the result, the under 15 players should be pleased with the performance they put in and know if they compete like this in every game, then they are always in with a chance of winning.
