Danny is confident of a Rangers' winning run

The Duncansfield side edged local rivals Cumbernauld United 3-2 despite playing much of the second half with only 10 men.

Smith said: "We're hoping the players gain confidence from Saturday and we can go on a bit of a run. When you get into the way of winning it becomes second nature. It's very important that we start the season well.

"It's all about getting the players in the right frame of mind. They're putting a great effort in and responding to everything we ask."

Cumbernauld United boss John Queen was less convinced by his team's showing.

He said: "All credit to Kilsyth Rangers, I would say they edged it and deserved to win. We were struggling a bit for players because of holidays and had a few guys out of position and only two subs – and one of them had just got back from Mexico at 9am that morning.

"But I was a bit distraught after the game because of the way we played, even if we had got something from the game, I just wasn't happy with the performance."

This Saturday's Sectional League Cup fixtures see Rangers away to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy whilst United travel to Dunipace.
