Amateur football

RESULTS from the Sunday Central Amateur Football League pre-season games were as follows -

Springhall were narrowly edged out by MK Dynamo, in a 2-1 win for the Premier league side. After both sides ran out with impressive wins last weekend, it was always thought it could be a potential firecracker and with such a close result, it reinforces Springhall’s resurgence from last season while Dynamo continue with winning ways, form they will hope to take into the Premier league campaign.

Partick Thistle dominated Quayside in a crushing 6-1 victory for the new boys. Thistle, who have joined from the Supporter’s League, will be ecstatic with the result as they prepare for their campaign in division 2B. Quayside were brought back to earth after dishing out a beating to Phoenix United last week. They’ll hope this was only a minor blip in their preseason plans as they build to challenge for division 2A crown.

Cumbernauld Colts ran out 12-0 victors over Kirkwood Thistle in what must be a hard one to take for the Thistle lads who were coming off the back of back to back 7-3 victories. Colts were more than impressive in their first preseason outing and will be inserted as one of the front runners for the Division 2A title.

Glasgow Rovers edged a tight affair against Redstar Thistle, coming out with a 4-3 triumph in this all division 2B clash. Rovers grabbed victory in the dying minutes of the game which they’ll feel is the sweetest way to win but for Thistle will be the cruellest way to lose.

Castlemilk East completely outshone Beechwood Albion with an 8-0 romp. East fell just short of promotion last season and will be hoping to go one better this time out in Division 1. For Albion, it’s back to the drawing board as they will be looking to impress in 2B.

Bailieston were over-run by Real Albion as they came out on the wrong side of a 4-1 game. Baillieston will be competing in Division 2A and will be hoping to finish better than they did last year, after their flirt with relegation.

Bellgrove came out on top of Phoenix United in an all 3rd division clash. The 3-0 victory will be seen as a building block for Bellgrove who will hope to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Queen’s Park Spiders, Milton and Wellshot and make a big impression in the 3rd division this year. Phoenix will be hoping their luck turns soon as they come off of back to back defeats.

AC Volvomax will be another side who hope their fortunes change sooner rather than later after their run of defeats continued with a 4-1 loss to the hands of Third Lanark. Third’s will be hoping that they can carry this form into the league to better their grand total four points from last season.

Manhattan Blacks started their preseason preparations for the Premier league with a 6-3 win over division 2A side Eastfield Star. Blacks will be hoping to emulate MK Dynamo, or perhaps better them, this season in the Premier (Dynamo consolidated a 6th placed finish after gaining promotion to the Premier last year). Star will look at this result as a good grounding point to build from.

Westercommon Star continued to be impressive in preseason this time with a 5-0 triumph over Premier League side Beechwood Athletic. Star are looking good to challenge for the division 2B crown (but of course preseason results aren’t always reliable). Beechwood Athletic will be wondering what went wrong after dominating fellow Premier league side Whitehill 8-1 last tie out.

And finally, Cumbernauld Colts would have thought they had the result of the weekend, but they were out done. Castlemilk Dynamo ran out 14-0 victors over Cranhill United, in a match that showcased Dynamo’s title credentials to the Premier league crown. The crushing loss for Cranhill should not be scrutinised too much as on their day Dynamo can be simply phenomenal.
