Clyde boss Danny Lennon: Covid-19 has made us appreciate football more

The Bully Wee players were due to return to the Broadwood training pitch yesterday (Tuesday) to finally start their pre-season build-up.

Lennon is delighted the long wait to return following March’s shutdown due to the coronavirus outbreak is finally over.

He said: “These have been strange times, filled with tremendous uncertainty. The absence of football over the pandemic has given us all an appreciation of the fantastic opportunity and gift that football is.

“We have great facilities at this club, a tremendous fan base and a wonderful team spirit.

“I thoroughly enjoy working with the coaching staff and players at Clyde. We have created some great memories in my time here and we are looking to do everything right in pre-season to ensure we create more positive memories in the season ahead.”

“We will have to adapt certain aspects of training due to the pandemic and we will also be looking to complete the building of the squad in the weeks ahead.”

Since last season Clyde have lost the services of regulars Ray Grant and Chris McStay, who turned down new deals, and John Rankin, who has retired.

A number of other players were also released while defender Jamie Bain is, so far, the only addition.

Lennon said: “This presents us with a lot of work to do and personally I can’t wait to address these challenges to the best of my abilities.”

Clyde’s competitive season starts on Saturday, October 10, at home to Dumbarton in the Betfred Cup
