The Bully Wee have landed a tough looking group which does not contain any League 2 sides - but does include Premiership side Kilmarnock, Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic and League 1 side Dumbarton, as well as Falkirk.

Clyde faced Falkirk three times last season and won them all - victories which played a major part in the Bairns’ failure to go back up to the Championship at the first attempt following their relegation the previous season.

A Mark Lamont goal gave Clyde their first win of the season in the sides’ first clash at Broadwood.

Darren Smith’s late winner secured another 1-0 success in the return at the Falkirk Stadium, before another Lamont goal and a David Goodwillie double earned a 3-2 victory back at Broadwood in February.

Monday’s draw also paired Clyde with Kilmarnock for the third time in five seasons.

They met in the first year of the revamped group format in 2016 with Kilmarnock winning 2-1 at Broadwood.

The Ayrshide side also ran out 4-2 winners at Rugby Park 12 months later.

Clyde’s clash with Dunfermline will be the first meeting between the sides in a decade - they last met in a League Cup second round tie at East End Park in August 2010 which the Fifers won 3-2.

League 1 rivals Dumbarton are more familiar opponents - the Sons were the only side Danny Lennon’s men were able to complete their full quota of league games against last season.

Honours were even with two wins apiece. Clyde winning the first encounter at Dumbarton and then losing home and away before a 2-0 victory at Broadwood in March - their last fixture before lockdown.

The Betfred games will be played over three matchdays at the start of October and two in mid-November.
