The 29-year-old former Scotland star received the accolade at the club’s awards night in the new Arria Lounge at Broadwood on Saturday night.

Goodwillie - who joined Clyde last year, initially on a short-term contract until the end of last season - has hit 25 goals this season and has played a key role in the club’s revival under Danny Lennon over the past few months.

He was chosen as Player of the Year following a vote by supporters at the recent home match against Montrose. Barry Cuddihy was second and Martin McNiff was third.

The Goal of the Season award went to Mark Lamont for his effort in that match against Montrose, which Clyde won 3-0.

However while a series of vital goals from Goodwillie have helped people Clyde up the table, boss Danny Lennon said his performance in Satuirday’s win over Stirling Albion showed there was more to his game than simply finding the net.

He said: “I thought David Goodwillie, even though he didn’t score today, showed exatly how he can tie up a back four on his own and allow others to go and create.

“They [Stirling] are a very good side but our players are competing very well, even against the top teams in the league, and we’re just disappointed the season is coming to an end.

“We want to set foundations and build a platform for next season and the players have been absolutely outstanding.

“I’ve also got to give my staff a lot of credit because they are bringing the best out of the players, they’re demanding, they’re probably getting the players playing to a level they didn’t think they would achieve this season.”

Clyde also welcomed Neil Hood into the club’s Hall of Fame at Saturday’s Awards Night.

The 70s and 80s striker, gave a moving speech, describing himself as a “Clyde man through and through.”
