Clyde hope Easter will bring happy campers

Clyde have launched their Easter Holiday camp programme aimed at giving local youngsters the ideal opportunity to spend their school break having fun and playing football.

The camps, run by the Clyde FC Community Foundation, were launched last week when organisers teamed up with youngsters at Carbrain Primary School.

The camps are open to children aged between four and 15 and will be held in Cumbernauld.

They will run across two weeks, from Monday to Friday, April 4-8 and from Monday to Friday, April 11-15.

During week one, only the kids will have the option to stay for either two hours (morning or afternoon) or full day sessions at Ravenswood Sport Centre.

Week two will be delivered at Chryston Secondary School, mornings only.

Tom Elliott, who heads up the Community Foundation at Clyde FC, is enthusiastic about the initiative.

He said: “It’s brilliant for the connection between the club and the community – and really good for the kids. “Exercise is a great thing for young people. They get a lot from it and it helps develop them steadily.

“Following the success of previous camps I have delivered at a number of clubs we are all set for this year at Clyde FC. We’re going to have a really good Easter.”

During the camps, children will benefit from structured coaching sessions directed by SFA qualified instructors.

They will also undertake fun challenges, collect a completion certificate and have the chance to meet some famous faces.

Club captain Mark McLaughlin also stressed the importance of running programmes such as the Easter training camps.

He said: “It’s good for future Clyde stars and to get children started early with football to keep them active.

“It’s also a great initiative to hopefully get kids saying to their mums and dads that they want to go and see Clyde play.”
