He told the club’s website: “John’s going to be my captain. He’s our longest serving player alongside Iain Gray and he knows what the club is about.
“I don’t see any reason to change it. He’s an important member of my squad, but that goes for everyone else and everyone gets treated the same.

“It’s a great bunch of boys and I can’t complain one bit about what they have done so far. The atmosphere is great.”

Clyde have also announced the signing of Scott McManus on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old striker has previously had spells at Stenhousemuir, Stranraer, Celtic and most recently Vale of Clyde. He is also a former Scotland youth player, gaining caps at under-17 and under-18 level.

Ferguson told the Clyde website: “Scott’s a bit behind in terms of fitness at the moment, but he’s going to be doing extra work over the next couple of weeks. He’s a player that’s always on the move on the pitch, he’s busy and he always makes himself available. He’s desperate to learn and I think he has a bright future if he keeps working hard.

“I’m delighted to have secured him and I’m really happy with my squad.”
