Clyde striker Gormley relieved to be off the mark

Clyde striker Dave Gormley says it's a measure of expectations at the club that they came off disappointed after last week's 2-1 win over promotion rivals Elgin.

The League Two side made a whirlwind start with two goals in the opening six minutes, Gormley grabbing the opener.

But they failed to maintain the momentum and had to dig in to combat Elgin’s second half rally to claim the points.

Manager Barry Ferguson said afterwards he felt it was the kind of match Clyde would not held on to win last season.

And Gormley admitted he and his team-mates were unhappy not to have pressed home their early advantage.

He said: “It was a fast start for us and it was good to get the goals early, not just the first but the second as well.

“It was a good three points to get for us, but we’ve come in and everybody’s having a wee go at each other.

“But it shows the standard we’ve set for ourselves this season when we come off and we’ve beaten the team who’s up there with us at the top of the league and we’re still disappointed in the performance.

“First and foremost it’s three points but then you look at the performance and we’ll work on it; we’ll talk on it in training and see how we can go for next week.”

Next up for Bully Wee is a trip to Arbroath and the 28-year-old frontman will be hoping to get the nod again after netting his first goal of the season against Elgin.

He said: “It was good to start and good to get a goal, it’s a bit embarrassing for a striker, first goal and it’s November.

“It’s been a frustrating spell for me this season but I just need to bide my time.

“I’ve not really played as much as I’ve wanted to but you can’t complain when you’ve got Higgins and MacDonald, the two of them are flying just now.”
