Colts victorious at Rangers tournament

THE prestigious Rangers FC International Youth Tournament provided Cumbernauld Colts 1998 squad with an early opportunity to kick off the new season.

The tournament which attracted over sixty teams at various age groups from around the United Kingdom was played at Glasgow High School last weekend.

The draw saw the Colts boys grouped with a strong Celtic Boys’ Club, a Rangers FC select team and Larkhall Thistle who were Lanarkshire League winners last season. The Colts came through the group stage undefeated and other results meant they faced Celtic Boys’ Club in a Sunday afternoon final.

In a keenly contested match the Colts ran out worthy winners, winning 1-0 with a fantastic 25-yard goal. This is the fourth competition they have won in as many months and it is added it to the Holland Cup they won in Amsterdam, the Giffnock International Youth Festival, and the Victoria Clydesdale Shield.

The boys also have the honour of being the first Colts team to put a trophy in the cabinet at their new Broadwood Stadium home.
