Cumbernauld Colts make it two league wins

The visitors started the match with several enforced changes following last week’s heroics against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup.

The Colts would deservedly take the lead though just before the half hour mark. Emma McIntyre chipping McIlravey in the home goal following great work from Captain Lesley Blair on the left.

The Colts had almost opened their account ten minutes previously. Jeanfield had their keepers left post to thank for denying Frances Fern following a fine strike from just outside the box. The woodwork was again to save them when another McIntyre effort came off the crossbar and was cleared to safety.

Jeanfield did go into the interval on level terms, the equaliser coming just four minutes before the break. Donna Shaw headed home unmarked.

Fifteen minutes after the break the Colts went in front again from a corner. Fern swung the ball in and it eventually fell to captain Blair who headed towards goal. With her effort seemingly falling short Hutchison deftly back heeled the ball into the net on the hour mark.

The Colts advantage was increased when the lively Fern raced onto a long clearance and fired home.

With five minutes to go Fern was replaced in the Colts final substitution as she made way for player manager Julie McSherry. McSherry was to cap her brief appearance with a goal in the final minute.

After the match McSherry said she was pleased with the way her side played in the second half.

“We were poor in the first half and were the victims of our own mistakes. The performance in the second half where the girls started believing they’d get the win was exceptionally satisfying, both from those that started and those that came on as replacements.

“We’ll now go into next week’s home match at Broadwood Stadium against Aberdeen reserves with some confidence.”
