Despite the visitors coming out on top, both sides played their part in an entertaining game.

After a tentative start from both sides, Rob Roy struck first on seven minutes when Ian Gold latched on to a loose ball and his deflected shot found the net.

United were soon level when Rabs defender Daniel O’Halloran slipped, allowing Tom Neil to rifle a well-struck 22-yard shot into the corner of the net.

Roy regained the lead in the 19th minute when a loose pass from skipper Paddy McCabe went straight to Alex Cassells, who threaded a neat pass for Craig Truesdale to slot past the onrushing Darren Hill.

Worse was to follow for the home side when hesitation in defence allowed Scott Gold to nip in between Hill and Jordan Kennedy and touch the ball home from from four yards.

A further blow looked on the cards when full-back Lee Duncanson handled a cross to concede a penalty, but a terrific save from Hill denied Cassells.

After half-time words from boss Kieran McAnespie, United took the game to Rob Roy on the resumption.

Scott Thomson knocked over from six yards and then, after being played through by Klark Thomson, shot wide when one on one with Matthew Kerr.

United continued to dominate possession, but the Rob Roy defence stood firm and caught United on the counter attack when Anton McGuigan provided an inch-perfect cross that Cassells buried with a downward header.

United didn’t give up and had further chances but it was Rob Roy’s day.
