Davidson hits double as Kilsyth Rangers trounce Troon

It was a well deserved victory with a good showing from all concerned and means they should have no concerns about being drawn into the relegation play-off spots.

In fact the Duncansfield side could could still have an outside chance of a promotion play-off.

Rangers started well, playing some nice football but it was Troon who had the first real chance, Danny McKay blasting the ball well over the bar from less than 10 yards.

Rangers hit back and soon after a good cross into the box by David Waters was met by Jamie Watson who struck the ball home from six yards.

Then good work by Franny Kelly gave Scott Davidson a chance and he made it two from short range.

Troon were down, but not yet out and made several good chances but their finishing was poor and David Kane had no trouble dealing with any shots that came his way.

After the break Troon had the best of the opening minutes of the second half, but received another shock in the 53rd minute.

Davidson made a great break and passed to Watson who fired in a good shot which Ally McInnes could only parry and Danny Smith was on hand to send it into the net. Rangers were now totally in control and another good run by Davidson resulted in him being upended in the box.

The Kilsyth man sent the resulting penalty well out of reach of the unfortunate keeper for his own second goal and Rangers were four up.

Changes were made on both sides, Rangers bringing on Stuart Livingstone, then Corey Pearson and Gary Graham.

To give them their due, Troon kept on trying and near the end got a consolation goal when Andy Strachan scored from about 25 yards.

An excellent all round performance and midweek fixtures starting this week offer a chance to climb further.
