Duffy takes charge

CLYDE have made the somewhat high-profile appointment of Jim Duffy as manager in a bid to ‘restore a level of respectability’.

Duffy is best-known for his two successful spells at Dundee, reaching the final of the League Cup in 1995 and the final of the Scottish Cup in 2003. He has appointed Chic Charnley as his assistant.

Duffy said: “Clyde play in a terrific stadium and have great facilities that would be an attraction to just about any manager. They’re obviously a club who have had some difficult times in recent years but there’s a lot of potential here.

“It’s about restoring a level of respectability first and foremost. There’s a good support here who would obviously like the good times back and we would ask them to be patient with us.”

Due to the unofficial winter shutdown, Duffy takes charge with more than half of this season’s fixtures left to play. The club face a gruelling schedule of 17 games during the coming eight weeks.

He continued: “I would say to have so many games so quickly after taking over could be good, but ideally you would like to have a bit more time on the training pitch to get to know your players.

Director of football Neil Watt said: “With the amount of games we have left we’re looking for some improvement and we know Jim can deliver that.”
