Early goals set Rangers up to take the points

It was a fairly smooth passage as they took an early two goal lead over Central First Division outfit Rossvale and were never seriously threatened thereafter.

They looked good going forward but goals are still being given away cheaply and defensive tactics need looking at if they are to progress further.

Rangers got an early chance when they were awarded a free-kick and Frannie Kelly put in a good effort which Jamie Donnelly turned round the post for a corner.

But the opening goal was only delayed until the seventh minute as Scott Davidson hit the post and Frannie Kelly, following up, struck the ball home.

It wasn’t too long before Rangers were two up as Mark Flynn picked up the ball near the edge of the penalty area and struck a low shot to the net.

It looked like being a question of how many Rangers might score before half-time but Rossvale began to get their act together and come back into the game.

Some rather sloppy defending let Craig Holmes pull one back in the 26th minute and they were now well in the game.

Paul McBride came on for Flynn, who had taken a leg knock. Nicky Prentice was putting in his usual quota of good work and created a good chance for McBride but his effort was easily saved.

Rangers made a good restart to the second half and 10 minutes in they eased themselves further ahead when Davidson, who had put in a lot of good work, scored with a shot from just inside the box.

It looked once again that Rangers might add a few more goals and they had several good chances.

When Gary Kelly added a fourth mid way through the half it was effectively over as a contest.

Prentice made a great run and hit the crossbar with a great effort .

Rossvale did keep plugging away though and Gary Trussler got a second goal of the day to keep them in with an outside chance,

But there was no further scoring.
