Ex-Clyde player Eddie Ferns among three new Cumbernauld United signings

Former Clyde winger Eddie Ferns, ex-Kilsyth Rangers midfielder Tom Neil and local lad Josh Flood were all announced as new recuits to the Guy’s Meadows ranks last weekend.

After starting at Drumchapel Amateurs Ferns (29) tuned senior career with Alloa Athletic in 2012, helping them win promotion to the Championship in his first season.

He made over 100 appearances in four years at Alloa, which included a loan spell at Albion Rovers, and had spells at Stirling Albion, Arbroath and Stenhousemuir before joining Clyde in June 2018.

He made eight appearances for the Bully Wee, but was released by mutual consent at the end of August 2018. His last club was Darvel Juniors

It’s been another busy day at Guy’s Meadow with the arrival of former Kilsyth Rangers midfielder,Tom Neil who signed for the club today.

Neil makes the short trip from local rivals Kilsyth while the experienced Flood (28) has almost 100 senior appearances to his name with Stirling Albion and Albion Rovers and has also played for Shotts Bon Accord and, most recently, Sauchie Juniors.

The trio join an experienced squad which has been assembled by new United boss Kieran McAnespie and which also included ex-Clyde skipper Kevin Nicoll and former Livingston, Dundee and Stenhousemuir striker Colin McMenamin.

United’s players are due to report back for socially-distanced training this weekend, although a season start date has still to be confirmed.
